At Dance Club the Years 2 and 3 have been working very hard the past few weeks learning a dance routine to the song Feeling Hot Hot Hot. Today, we have been exploring sculptures with ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ spaces. We looked at sculptures by the sculptor Barbara Hepworth. We then used clay to sculpt our own sculptures with inside and outside spaces. We can’t wait to paint them next week!

We have been looking at different sculptors. Today, we looked at a sculptor called Alexander Calder. He used bright colours and simple shapes in his sculptures. Many of his sculptures are kinetic, meaning that they move. Today, we created hanging kinetic sculptures which are moved by the wind. We hung these in a tree near to our reading shed.  

Today Jack from year 6 and Corbin from year 2 chose to spend their own time collecting litter from around the school grounds. This morning we all went to church to crown Mary. We have been learning that May is the month of Mary. In Year 2, we have been learning all about measuring length. We enjoyed some outdoor maths this week using our metre sticks to measure various things around the school grounds.

Year 2 had a fabulous day yesterday at Shotton Hall. They all participated in lots of fun activities and had a lovely time. Their behaviour was fantastic.  

We had so much fun table drumming this week. We tried really hard to listen to the beat.

Tuesday was the last session of Library Club for our Y2 children. We read the story of The Gingerbread Man and the children enjoyed joining in with some of the parts and then re-telling it to their friends. They decorated their very own Gingerbread Man but their favourite part was eating them at the end of the story.

We visited church  to make a  prayer pilgrimage through the stations of the cross to help us to grow  closer to Jesus  during Lent.  We heard the different parts from the story at each station, said prayers and  asked God to  help us to be better follows of Jesus. We have come to the end of our Animals Including Humans topic in science. Using the skills they have learnt, the class enjoyed completing some challenges. We  all had a lovely time on Friday afternoon sharing our homework all about meerkats. It was lovely to hear all of the interesting facts we had all found out and we all enjoyed reading each other’s facts. On Tuesday, we had a visit from the author Adam Bushnell.  We met Adam’s superhero tortoise Jet and talked about his super powers. We then had a lovely time illustrating and creating our own superhero meerkat characters. We have spent the rest of this week writing our very own superhero meerkat stories. Mrs Wilkinson is very proud of us!  

We have enjoyed some reading time with our friends today and enjoyed sharing books from our class library.
