We have spent our maths lesson this morning consolidating all we have learnt so far in our multiplication topic. We worked hard making groups of in lots of different activities. Well done Year 2. You showed this morning how amazing you are!  

To start off our instruction writing unit, we have spent some time today reading and following a set of instructions to make a paper plate fish. We had a lovely, fun English lesson.  

We have began our new Maths topic of multiplication and division. We began with a practical lesson of recapping equal groups. We had a lovely time using lots of manipulatives to practise.  

As part of our Art topic, we have been looking at sculptures by Henry Moore. Henry Moore made sculptures of humans. We had a lovely afternoon making sculptures with our bodies and then positioning our pipe cleaner human into the same pose. We then used our pipe cleaner human to make lots of different sculptures and sketched these into our …

Today, we created an algorithm (a precise set of instructions or rules to achieve an outcome or solve a problem) to instruct a pretend robot (Mrs Kharko) to make a jam sandwich. Some of us had some very funny looking jam sandwiches. We then discussed what happens if the instructions aren’t precise enough.

Year 2 has a lovely Christmas party this week. We enjoyed dancing, games and some party snacks. We have also enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch made by our wonderful kitchen staff.  

This term, Y2 have been designing and making ferris wheels. They used cardboard to make the frame and the wheel and egg boxes to make the pods. As you may have seen recently, many refugees have been uprooted and relocated from Afghanistan to the North East of England. The SVP society at St Cuthbert’s House are collecting donations for these families. A super start to our club on Monday. We practised different shapes and how to jump safely. Well done to all the children who came.  

We have been learning the seven continents in Year 2 and have enjoyed learning a song to help us to remember them. In small groups, we have made messy maps to show our continents.

We have been learning all about materials and their properties in Year 2. Today we used our knowledge and the vocabulary we have been learning to guess what was in the box. We used lots of appropriate vocabulary to ask questions and had lots of fun.  

We had our first ‘Maths is fun’ session this week and our focus was 2d shapes. We had fun taking part in a carousel of activities.
