Summer After School Clubs Loading…

During our outdoor adventure lesson in PE, we went outside to use equipment and map key to create a Funny Face using information on our map.

Today Year 1 have been learning about what countries are in the United Kingdom. They made their own map of the UK with play-dough and labelled it with the countries in it. They also labelled the capital cities in each country.

We had had lots of fun on Tuesday afternoon with the author Adam Bushnell. We went outside and collected natural materials to make our very own Stick Man, Stick Pet and Stick Monster. Yesterday the children discovered what’s attracted to magnetcs and why. They created their own games using the magnets and metal objects in the classroom. We had lots of fun making our own magnetic fishing rods and magnetic mazes.

Little Library Club was lots of fun yesterday. We read a story about slimy slime creatures and thought about some slimy things that we might see at home. The children thought of snails, slimy soap, slippery jelly and gooey baked beans. We then had a go at making our own slime creatures out of Play-Doh. Everyone had a great time …

The children in Year 1 worked in groups to play ‘Material Snap’. They looked around the room for something that is made from the material card they picked. The children then created their own song all about materials to the tune Fere Jacques.

This week the children have made their own Owls using paper plates and using their cutting skills. Once they had made their big owl, they were set the challenge to make a baby owl. Well done everyone!

We had a lovely time in this week’s little library club. Mrs Wilkinson read us the story of ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.’ We really enjoyed it and we couldn’t believe that the wolf wasn’t in fact big and bad but simply had a sneezy cold! Year 1 completed lots of subtraction challenges today, using number lines, part-whole models and tens frames. They really enjoyed working together to complete the challenges.

This week our work was based on The Hungry Caterpillar. We enjoyed watching a video to remind us of the story. We then made our own hungry caterpillars by making a green paper chain with a red head.

During Art, we made peg dolls to add to our forest setting. We explored fabrics such as satin, cotton, hessian and fur and then we chose the most appropriate fabric for our Little Red Riding Hood peg doll.

The children in Year 1 had a great afternoon dancing and playing games at their Christmas party.

As you may have seen recently, many refugees have been uprooted and relocated from Afghanistan to the North East of England. The SVP society at St Cuthbert’s House are collecting donations for these families.
