Year 6 had great fun on World Book Day working alongside author Adam Bushnell and dressing as something from a poem. Year 6 worked with Adam to look at Lewis Carroll’s “The Jabberwocky” and re-wrote their own versions, in his style, using nonsense words throughout – it’s harder than it looks!  

Judo was a great new  contact sport for us to try!

Year 6 enjoyed a visit from Adam Bushnell this week where they created a spooky description of a face and read it in the dark using a torch to create a spooky atmosphere.

Year 6 enjoyed celebrating number day to raise money for the NSPCC. We dressed as rockstars and did everything from Bingo to board games. We carried out competitions to see who could use their coins to make the tallest tower, largest number and spell out number day 2020.

Year 5 and 6 multi sports club are having a great time with John doing some Box Fit tonight!

Children from year 6 were invited to the annual children’s science day to develop their scientific thinking and enquiry skills. Their contribution was about how plants and animals have evolved over time and have had to adapt to their environment in order to survive. Year 6 enjoyed getting into the christmas spirit with a scientific christmas workshop. First the children were tasked with making toothpaste for reindeers, they really enjoyed seeing the chemical reaction. Then they used their prior knowledge of changing state to make their own vanilla scented bauble bath-bombs.  

We launched a competition during Anti Bullying Week.  The children had to design a poster to be displayed around school.  The poster had to include the slogan ‘Change Starts With Us’, what to do if they see or experience bullying and an anti bullying message.  The competition was judged by Mrs McGann who is our Anti Bullying Governor. Year 6 have enjoyed applying their new knowledge of percentages to some real life maths, booking the perfect package holiday for customers who want some much needed winter sunshine. They used their knowledge of percentages to decide on a suitable discount for their customers to help them afford a holiday within their budget.

Year 6 enjoyed a visit to Sunderland National Glass Centre to explore the history of glass making and to watch a live demonstration.
