Year 6 have enjoyed having Mr Robinson from St.Bede’s in every fortnight to teach music. This half term we have been learning a song called “siyahamba” which once the children were able to get the hang of saying were able to sing in a round with harmonies and even use their knowledge to adapt the song to new lyrics.

Yesterday we launched the Mission Together “Lent through a lens” competition. We are asking all children over half term to take a photograph of something which they think represents Lent. On the back of the entry sheets there is some space for children to generate ideas to help them to decide what to photograph. All entries submitted will be judged …

Our JRSO’s launched a competition last week to support the topic of staying safe during the dark nights. They were blown away by the entries and are having a hard time choosing the winners. The winners will be announced during Friday’s assembly.

The school Council have been extremely busy this afternoon looking at all of the ideas they gathered from the parent questionnaires. We looked at all of the suggestions and ranked them in order of what they, as children, could have an impact on. From this the children are going to choose one issue to tackle.

In our explore lesson in RE we have been talking about our experience of a special meal. We talked about a birthday party, Christmas and a Baptism celebration. We are holding a drop in for parents to attend on Wednesday 8th February to help us to raise awareness during Children’s Mental Health Week. We would like as many parents as possible to attend.

As part of our RE topic on celebrations we went to church to look for objects associated with celebrations in church. We then compared objects we might find at home compared to those we find just in a church.
