Year 1 visit church to watch a Baptism

Year 1 have been learning about Baptism in their Belonging topic in RE. We have had lots of opportunities to role play a Baptism in class, but today we visited church to watch Deacon Peter baptise baby Mary. We had a chance to see all of the different symbols we have been talking about in class; the font, the candle, the oil and the white garment. In class, we talked about what the candle stands for and made our own baptismal candles. We put our names on these candles and made a collage with them to create an image of the family of Jesus. We also talked about the ‘Our Father’ prayer and listened to an ‘Our Father’ song and made up our own actions.
