Tuesday 19th May

Today is CHOOSEDAY but before you begin deciding what you would like to learn about I’d like you to complete the following tasks:

For Maths, I would like you to continue with the BBC Bitesize maths lesson on multiplying decimals by integers (remember this is just a fancy word meaning whole number). https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zncsscw/year-6-and-p7-lessons/1

For English, I would like you to complete 30 minutes of reading plus to see if we can meet our weekly targets, increase our combos and level up! Again the English task is part of the RE task.

For RE today, we are going to explore how Jesus was concerned with the sick and needy. He never turned anyone away even when he was tired and weary. In Jesus’ day, there were many sick people and they often had to survive by begging at the roadside.

Start by readingJesus gives sight to a blind man’ which illustrates Jesus’ compassion.

When Jesus sent out his disciples to preach the Good News they “…anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.” Mark 6: 13.

Christians are called to follow Christ’s example and care for others, especially for those most in need.

Jesus explains this very clearly in the parable of the ‘Good Samaritan.’ Read this story next. A parable is a story which conveys an important meaning or more than one meaning. In this story from Luke’s Gospel, a lawyer was trying to catch Jesus out with questions. The final one was, ‘Who is my neighbour?’ Jesus answers this with a story, but the story also has another meaning. It shows the care and compassion with which we should treat each other.

Parables 19th May

Create a storyboard or Powerpoint of this parable. Include the reasons why the Samaritan acted as he did and what effect it had on the man who was mugged.

Finally, using the BBC Bitesize link, learn about the Galapagos Islands.

They are full of plants and animals and David Attenborough has many documentaries about his findings there. Charles Darwin also visited and this is, if you remember, where he came up with his Finch Theory.

You can learn more about the island from watching Planet Earth

Feel free to research Charles Darwin further, here is a link to start you off:

Put together a factfile or a non-chronological report of the Galapagos Islands and what you have found out about them. Include well composed sentences and photographs or illustrations. You may want to make your own short film in the style of David Attenborough around your own garden – have a commentary about the plants and animals you encounter.

Once you have completed these tasks, if you have time after you have completed your daily exercise and had a break you may want to CHOOSE something of your own to learn about.
