Monday 1st June

Hope you are all feeling relaxed from having a week from home learning.

Today I would like you to complete the BBC Bitesize maths task, converting fractions to percentages. Remember when we learnt about this in class, we said to make it easier for you, to covert your fractions so you denominator is 100 which makes it easier to convert to percentages. For example 5/20 … I will think how many 20’s are in 100 (5, so 5×20 is 100) then the golden rule still applies, “whatever I do to the bottom I do to the top” so 5×5 = 25. My fraction now is 25/100. As a percentage this is 25%.

For English and Science today in light of what happened on Saturday with the SpaceX launch, I would like you to watch the question and answer session with Tim Peake, an astronaut who has already visited the international space station. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zdrrd2p/articles/z822hv4

If you were to interview an astronaut, what questions would you like to ask them? One of the biggest questions is how do astronauts get home? Find out by watching the videos on the this link https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zdrrd2p/articles/zq3hycw

Research astronauts further and present your findings by making a video commentating on your findings, producing a video with images on purple mash, as a poster, a powerpoint or in some other creative way.

Summarise your research answering this question. Would you like to be an astronaut and explore the solar system? If so, why? What qualities do you have that would make you a good candidate for future space exploration?

If not, what are your reservations about space flight?

Finally, for today, with space flight in mind, could you produce a piece of art work related to this. It could be the solar system, a rocket launching, a particular planet or designing a space suit. It could be created as a sketch or using paints, or even materials around your house to make a 3D effect or collage.

I bet your work today will be out of this world! Enjoy 🙂
