Fun Friday

The end of another week. Let’s hope you have enjoyed finding out about caterpillars and butterflies. At the end of the story the caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly. Today we are looking more closely at butterflies. In our Whiterose maths there are lots of ideas for you to do e.g. making play dough caterpillars, making a symmetrical butterfly and looking at the days of week. I’ve also included some challenges on sheets for those who like to print those off and some ideas of activities for those who don’t have a printer.

Next week should be half term so I won’t be posting daily activities. I am working in school on Thursday and Friday if you need to get in touch with me. I saw a nice activity you might want to start next week. You find a jar or box and fill it with things that make you happy. At the end of this strange time you can open your happy jar or box to remind yourself of those happy times.

After, “half term” my planning will be changing as I get ready for those children who are returning to school. I will put my weekly planning on Tapestry on a Monday which will show the activities and topics I will be covering in school.

Thank you for all of your support and kind words over this very strange half term and well done to you all with your home schooling. All of the photographs and videos you have posted have shown all of your children smiling and having fun which is so important when you are 4 and 5!

Have a well- deserved break and keep safe.

Love from Mrs Groark xxx

Friday’s tasks

Phonics

Watch YouTube for your daily phonics work. Today the sounds are:

Set 1 – s
Set 2 – ir
Set 3 – oi

The children need to know both the letter name and the letter sound. I saw this activity and thought it might be fun and also help to recognise capital letters. You need kitchen roll, felt tip pens, water.

Fold the pieces of paper in half. Write the capital letter on the top and the lower case inside. Ask the children to say the letter name, drop water on the paper and see the lower- case letter appear. Children to say the sound.

Literacy Hopefully you have had a good week looking at caterpillars and butterflies. Think about your week and think of something you have enjoyed doing during the week. What has been your favourite day. Can you draw a picture and write a sentence about your favourite day.
Maths Go to Whiterose maths Summer Term Week 3 Day 5 – (w/c 4th May) There are lots of lovely tasks that you can do today, making playdough caterpillars of different lengths, recognising the days of the week and making a symmetrical butterfly.

Some of the extra challenges are making symmetrical butterflies by using our knowledge of doubles.

Cut out the caterpillar circles and put them in the correct order to make a caterpillar. If you haven’t got a printer cut out circles, write the days of the week onto the circles and put them into the correct order to make a caterpillar.

Other areas of learning Let’s have some fun by being creative. You need a tissue or a paper towel and some felt tip pens. Put some large dots or lines on the paper be careful you don’t rip the tissue. Once you have put the pen marks on the tissue add some drops of water and watch what happens. How many new colours can you see? If you gather the tissue with a peg in the middle it should look like a butterfly like the ones on the picture. You could experiment by using different colours.
