At Dance Club, the Years 5 and 6 have been working so hard this term learning a dance routine to the megamix of High School Musical. It was a relief to find out we had all made it onto the nice list this year!

It is always lovely to have buddy time but this one was special being able to exchange christmas cards we had made and do some christmas craft.

Year 5 & 6 Christmas Lunch Year 5 & 6 also enjoyed an amazing Christmas Lunch on Wednesday.  Year 6 were sad to realise it was their last Christmas Dinner made by Jan!

We had a brilliant time keeping active with Candy Cane and his elves from the Easington School Sports Partnership!  Thank you to the staff and fantastic sports leaders from Seaham High School who came to make sure we all had lots of fun!         

Year 6 had fun this week exploring Charles Darwin’s Finch Theory. They used different instruments which represented the Finches beaks and different size items which represented the types of food available on the Galapagos Islands. Some of our Y6 children at St Cuthbert’s talked to Fr Marc Lyden Smith and the Youth Ministry Team about waiting during advent to help prepare the Wait a Minute reflection for the second Monday of advent.  Well done to our thoughtful and reverent pupils for reminding us of the importance of preparing ourselves during this advent season.

Soft Archery Some Y5 and Y6 pupils had a chance to try some soft archery in school on Friday with Mrs Herron. It was great to try something new and everyone did brilliantly when listening to advice to improve their techniques.  

During October, we began exploring inspirational people for Black History Month. Using a project inspired by Gomersal Primary School, we made posters about some of the amazing men and women we learned about.

Year 6 enjoyed a visit from Father Marc where they learnt all about the sacrament of ordination and Father Marc’s own personal experience. Year 6 used this to write the key events of an ordination service and made links throughout using the information Father Marc shared.

In year 6 we have been developing confidence in our own ability and taking pride in our work. To help develop our self-esteem we are now doing a weekly show and tell. Any child who is proud of something they have done that week can share it with others. Their friends can either give a compliment or ask a question.  …

Year 6 delivered a wonderful collective prayer to the whole school and their families on Friday, reminding us why November 11th is remembrance day, what we remember and why we remember, reading from John’s Gospel and observing a quiet meditation and 2 minute silence. “Go home and tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today.” …

Year 6 took part in an outreach workshop with Naomi from the D.L.I and 3 of her veteran volunteers. We are very proud of our Year 5 and Year 6 children who represented our school at the tag rugby competition on Wednesday. The A team came 4th and the B team came 7th overall which is an amazing achievement.
