Year 6 had a treat on Friday as they got to hold our new chicks. The chicks were very well behaved and were happy to fall asleep on our hands. We noticed that some of them were already starting to develop feathers on their wings and we are looking forward to watching them grow over the next few days.

As with yesterday, our planned activities were cancelled due to the wind so we enjoyed some fun activities in school. This morning, we had a go at some soft archery. Earlier this year, in PE, Year 6 created a dance. They had to use partner work, whole class sequences and individual choreography. They did and excellent job. We thought this was a good time to share the video. Year 6 Chair Dance  

Year 6 had a wonderful time working with local author, Adam Bushnell last week. We were working on a plan to write a descriptive piece about a zombie apocalypse. We designed our zombies and discussed some amazing vocabulary ideas to describe them. We even got dressed up to help us think about mutations and monstrous creatures.

Y6 have been working on algebra in maths. We used some cubes to help us show different formulae and were able to solve equations and make our own formulae to challenge each other.

This afternoon, Y6 and Reception class spent their Buddy Time exploring some activities on Purple Mash. The Y6 children were able to show their buddies how to create some wonderful digital art work and play some games. Everyone had a fantastic time.

As part of our Evolution and Inheritance science topic, Y6 conducted an experiment based on Charles Darwin’s theory of why different finches have different shaped beaks. We used different objects to act as beaks and different materials to act as food. We then competed against each other to see which beak would pick up the most food in 30 seconds. …

This week’s picture news was all about the RSPB birdwatch. Reception class took part in the big bird watch with their buddies. The children went outside to record the different species of birds spotted in our school environment.

Year 6 have enjoyed lots of festive activities in school this week. They took part in a Santa Dash, had a fantastic Christmas party and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner.
