Year 1 had lots of fun on Friday morning with Kev and Heather. We listened to the Secret Garden story and had to complete lots of tasks to gain flowers. We made our very own team name and built our own team gardens. We all had a lovely morning working as a team.

Year 3 have been using Microbits to make some code and program their devices to follow instructions. Today, we made step counters. We used our knowledge of the microbits program to create code to make our microbits count our steps everytime we moved them. We had to debug the program when things didn’t work and try other ideas. We’ve had a great start to gardening club with Peter and some of our seeds are already growing. We have enjoyed planting potatoes, French beans, leeks, basil, lettuce and spring onions. We even planted sunflowers to take home. This week we have also began filling our own compost bin.

Both of our football teams played against Westlea Primary School tonight. The A team match was a very close game. Karim saved a penalty but later in the half, Westlea scored and then defended very well. Super Sandwiches A big well done to Year 2 for their chopping, grating, spreading and sprinkling skills this afternoon. We made a DELIcious range of sandwiches from wraps to pitta pockets to hearty doorstops. We hope families enjoy their taste testing tonight!

We had such a fabulous day at the Locomotion museum. We learnt all about George Stephenson’s life and his inventions. We saw his Locomotion and acted out the first steam train journey from Shildon to Stockton. We also looked inside a train engine.

On Friday, Year 6 were treated to a visit from local author, Adam Bushnell. We had a go at describing a rainforest and using some ambitious vocabulary. Adam brought his pet tortoise, Jet, and we used him to help us make descriptions of different animals. We wrote clues about the animals and read them out having a go at guessing …

This afternoon, Year 5 have been doing a scientific experiment to find out which materials made good thermal insulators. We tried three different materials and checked the temperature of the water after 3, 6 and 9 minutes. We really enjoyed learning how to read the thermometers and predicting which material would keep the water the warmest.

This week we had a visit from author Adam Bushnell. We’ve been learning about Meerkats in class and with Adam we found out some interesting facts. Then we wrote our own storyboard about a meerkat. We had lots of fun and can’t wait to see Adam again.

We had a lovely day on Wednesday celebrating St Cuthbert’s Day. We went to church and found out some interesting facts about St Cuthbert. On the afternoon, we enjoyed eating ice cream with our friends.
