Today, 18 children from year 5 and 6 attended ESSP Sportshall Athletics competition at East Durham College. The children performed both track and field events and many came first in their heat. This week, gymnastics club worked on their balance and coordination when moving around the hall. They kept their movements controlled which is key when performing gymnastics skills. Last week was Anti-Bullying Week. Our children learn about Anti-Bullying and Mental Health and Well-Being throughout the year and we have a wealth of resources available to children. Our Y6 class, along with the Mental Health and Well-Being Ambassadors, have made a video to showcase all of the wonderful things we do to share with grown-ups.

Well done to our latest Stars Of The Week. Children from each year group have received awards for lots of things including good work, great manners, sporting achievements and contributions to school life. We love to celebrate the wonderful things our children do every week.

This week, gymnastics club worked super hard on lots of different rolls. On the mats, they performed rock and rolls, pencil rolls and egg rolls. We are all super excited to move on next week to teddy bear rolls and forward rolls.

We have been developing our drawing skills by using a range of materials and techniques. We have learnt about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and are beginning to use his art work as a stimulus for our own.

This week, Lennon and Jake were noticed by Miss Scarr for demonstrating exceptional qualities of friendship, teamwork and inclusivity. Both boys took time out of their playtimes to interact with the younger children in school, give them new OPAL experiences and help them to flourish whilst playing outside. Excellent OPAL ambassadors – Well done!

After a lovely half term break, OPAL play is back in full swing this week and the children have thoroughly enjoyed using the wheelie boards at playtime. They have given the children an opportunity to explore different ways of moving alone, with their friends and playing with children from other classes.

This week, craft club have started to turn into Santas little helpers in preparation for our Christmas fair in school. The children came up with some amazing craft ideas along with creating their own lollipop reindeer. I can guarantee they are going to be on Santas nice list!

Yesterday, some children from y5/6 went to Peterlee & Horden Rugby Club to take part in a tag rugby tournament. The children showcased excellent sportsmanship and team work throughout, along with being amazing ambassadors of St Cuthbert’s. Well done!
