Year 5 are exploring life cycles this term. We’re starting by looking at the life cycles of plants. Our allotment is full of plants with fruit and seeds after a warm summer. Some slugs are enjoying the cabbages as well, as you can probably tell from some of the facial expressions!

Year 5 have enjoyed exploring observational drawing and different media when drawing this week. We’ve used pencil, ballpoint pen, marker and charcoal to mark make and looked at the work of artist Olga Gamynina.

We’ve been making the most of the sunshine while it lasts and our play leaders are doing a great job at engaging younger pupils in the games, reading and crafts available at playtimes.  

Tonight, some children from year 3 and 4 stayed back to attend our first ever OPAL afterschool club. They worked in teams with their year 6 OPAL leader to find items from around the school grounds before creating a picture or sculpture. I think you’d agree, they did a great job! Wow! Miss Scarr was blown away with the children from year 1 and 2 who stayed back from gymnastics club. They worked super hard on their travelling skills, shapes and balances.

Our new Reception children are settling in so well and have had a fun and busy start. They have enjoyed their first school lunch, forest school activities, meeting their Year 6 buddies and enjoying the areas in the indoor and outdoor classroom. Well done Reception class. We are so proud of you!

The children has a lovely time at after school club tonight. They began the session with some mindfullness.  They then played 1,2,3 Where are you? afterwards,  then went on a hunt for sticks and natural materials to make their own paint brushes. They then enjoyed creating their masterpieces with their brushes and some paint.

What a brilliant end to the year with our trip to Hardwick Park! The children were absolute stars – well behaved and full of curiosity. After lots of practise, Year 5 were able to show their grown-ups their throwing, running and agility skills at sports day. On Tuesday, KS2 had a wonderful morning in their house groups, scoring points on sports day, Despite the wind and a little rain, the children had a fun filled morning. We all cheered and sent our congratulations to Mrs Lambert and Aidan house group who took the trophy this year. Here’s a little snippet of our morning.

Year 5 had a wonderful afternoon getting very wet in their summer splash run. The children laughed their way around the course becoming more wet each time! Well done year 5. The rain certainly put the SPLASH in splash run. Huge thank you to ESSP for hosting another wonderful event.

As part of our DT work this term we were set the challenge of creating our own pasta sauce and comparing it to a shop bought sauce. Firstly, we tried the shop sauce which lots of us enjoyed.
