Spring Term 2024

We had a great last week at school. We played games and danced at our Christmas party, had a lovely Christmas dinner, met Santa, watched a show and watched a movie in our pyjamas, with a hot chocolate. We hope you all have a lovely Christmas Year 1.  

Children and staff would like to say a huge thank you to the Friends of St. Cuthbert’s group, who organised the wonderful Christmas show that the children visited this week. Everyone had a fantastic time laughing and singing songs; it really got us all in a festive mood.  

We enjoyed our last day with some hot chocolate and a Christmas film. Well done Year 3 you have worked so well this term we hope you have a very Happy Christmas and New Year.  

After learning about Sir Isaac Newton’s theory on colour and how we see colours, year 6 enjoyed exploring this further with some child-led investigations using coloured filters. They were amazed to see how the colour filters could be used to block out colours to reveal secret messages.

Year 6 have enjoyed their science topic about light this half term, exploring how we see and the phenomenons created by light. The year 6 children planned, delivered and concluded their own findings to this science investigation into the shadows cast by objects. Year 6 enjoyed a christmas themed spanish lesson this week. They learnt some new vocabulary, read a story about a little tree who was helped by Santa before creating their own christmas cards for their families and writing inside in spanish whilst singing along to “feliz navidad.”  

Margaret and David from the adult SVP in our Parish came and collected what we had for the local food bank. The food bank, at Eastlea, were overwhelmed with the generosity from our school community and we know it will make a difference to the lives of others this Advent. We were so proud of Year 3 who showed us all how hard they had been working with Mrs Sellars. They entertained us during their violin concert.Well done Year Three.  

We had so much fun at school today. In the morning we enjoyed our Christmas party where we danced and played lots of party games. Y5 had a wonderful time getting into the festive spirit by taking part in the Santa Dash. They really enjoyed the activities and getting covered in snow at the end.

Y4 have had a lovely last few days of term. We have taken part in the Santa Dash, enjoyed our Christmas party, had a visit from Santa and finished off with a fabulous Christmas show at Seaham Town Hall.  

Year 6 had a wonderful time doing the Santa Dash. They dodged in and out of candy canes, decorated trees and even had a snowball fight. A great time was had by all.

We had lots of fun today. We threw snowballs, zig-zagged in and out of Santa hats, used a selfie frame and matched pairs. The best part was being sprayed by the snow machine.

Year 3 had fun at their Santa dash this afternoon – a big thank you to the young sports leaders and staff at Easington School Sports Partnership for running this for everyone in school!

Over the last 6 weeks, gymnastics club have worked unbelievably hard covering a wide variety of skills. They have worked on individual skills, pairs balances and finally produced a whole group routine. Each child has progressed week on week and have been a credit to the club. Well done!

Children will be having their Christmas Dinner on Wednesday 20th December. If your child normally has a school dinner, they will automatically be given a Christmas dinner. If your child normally has a packed lunch but would like a Christmas Dinner, please contact the school office by Tuesday 12th December.
