We finished our afternoon off with two workshops. The first was burial and the second battles. Both required the children to be heavily involved by acting, chanting and dressing up. The children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and brought back to school lots of new facts on the Anglo-Saxons.

What a fabulous way to finish our morning. Village walks, animal visits and finishing with the story Beowulf around the fire. We are full from lunch and ready for an afternoon of Anglo-Saxon workshops.

Since returning to school, our Playleaders have jumped straight into their new roles, supporting and engaging younger children during play times. In Year 2, we have been drawing spirals. We used our hands, our arms and our whole bodies to move when we were creating our art. We looked at art by Molly Hausland, who draws huge circles outdoors. We really loved drawing spirals on our yard.

Over the last two weeks, children have been using different media types to create artwork linking to the stories they read. Wow! What a way to start our Year 5 journey! A fabulous afternoon of paint throwing and colour bombing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and went home with colours in their hair and big smiles. A huge thank you to our Year 5 families for your generous sponsorships and to Easington Sports Partnership, these events don’t run without you.

Today our Year 3 children had their first First Access Violin lesson with Mrs Sellers from Durham Music Service. It was a great success! They will continue their lessons every Thursday throughout the school year.

As part of our RE this half term, we have been exploring homes. The children in year 3 enjoyed creating their own homes and beginning to think more deeply about why being at home makes us happy – favourite food, toys and family were among the top 3 reasons!

Tonight was the first gardening club for year 3 and 4. It was a lovely afternoon. We were in our prayer garden, weeding, gathering up leaves, moving mini-beasts we came across to somewhere safe and planted daffodil and tulip bulbs in the pots. Our first session of Board Games Club was a huge success. We played a variety of games such as; Snakes and Ladders, Gone Fishing and Rocking Robot. We also had a go at completing some jigsaw puzzles, building a domino rally and playing some matching games.

Well done to our latest Stars Of The Week. Children are already earning house group points and awards for wonderful work, demonstrating Gospel values and excellent behaviour.

Last week, we were generously donated a wooden climbing teepee, EYFS picnic table and a mud kitchen. These are a fabulous addition to our OPAL play and we cant wait to let the children explore come September!

This half term, children from year 4 and 5 have looked at many artists who base their artwork around our natural world.
