Year 5 have a wonderful, sunny day ahead of them! This morning we are heading up Fremington Edge before plodding in the river this afternoon. The weather is definitely on our side today and we can’t wait to see the views from the top!

Today, the children headed out onto the moors to follow the lead mining trail of Grinton. They learnt what is was like to be a lead miner and started digging to find their own Galena. This morning, Year 2 attended an outdoor event at Peterlee Pavilion. We did a selection of different activities including obstacle courses, water challenges and teamwork games. We demonstrated our skills in front of other schools. We developed our resilience, teamwork and problem solving skills. We all had a wonderful time.

After a great night sleep, year 5 are up, had breakfast and ready for a walk over the moors. Their tummies are full and ready for a day of exploring.

Today we met our guide for the week, Stuart, who led us on our first walk to Reeth. On Friday, to celebrate National Fish & Chip Day, year 5 swapped their plates for cardboard boxes and enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch. Today, 10 children braved the wind and the rain to take part in an outdoor athletics competition at Easington Colliery Primary School. The children showed excellent resilience throughout and we couldn’t be prouder to share that they came first in the small schools section of the event. Today, after a few last minute changes, the boys headed, in the sunshine, to Blackhall Cricket Club to play against 12 other schools from the local area. The boys played against some tough competition but pulled together showing exceptional teamwork, winning 2/4 games. Well done boys!

Today, 8 girls from KS2 headed over to Seaham Park Cricket Club for a tournament against 12 other schools. Each game the girls played, they improved in skill, resilience and were fantastic ambassadors of St Cuthberts. Well done girls!

Year 5 had a wonderful afternoon with Sophie from Easington SSP. After an assembly in the morning, the children did a range of activities covering the 5 ways of wellbeing. They took part in fitness bingo, letter assemble and the hoop challenge. It was important they listened to each other, worked together and took notice of themselves and their friends.

Our final playground games session was simply wonderful! The children had a great time with Scarlett, Sam, Unique and Jacob learning different games to play with the parachute.
