Our focus has been:
” We love because we are loved.”
Our year 6 pupils who are taking part in the Faith in Action award have been exploring what it means to love one another and what it means to be loved by someone. We explored videos about this from CAFOD then listened to scripture from John’s Gospel (John 15:12-17)
We arranged scripture according to how best it described love and reflected in our own ways, either through art, words, poetry how we show love and how we have been loved by others. This was a personal reflection and the children have added to it since the reflection.
We then explored and reflected on are like and follows love?
This gave the opportunity to reflect on the difference between like and love and the qualities needed to love. During this reflection the children thought of 5 people they love unconditionally. They then thought of 5 people they knew loved them unconditionally. It was amazing to see the same people appearing in both lists.
We ended our reflections about Love with a collective worship.
We heard again from John’s Gospel, this time the story of the true vine.
The children responded to bidding prayers with the response: I am loved, therefore I love – in keeping with the theme.
Finally we added our reflections of a time we have shown love and when someone else has shown love towards us on a heart. We went outside into nature so hang our hearts on the tree so our messages of love could blow in the wind and make their way to God.
We said our final prayer together, reflecting on our love and how we can go forward showing love to others. Our prayer reflected on the story of the vines:
Lord, you are the vine and we are your branches. Help us to be more deeply rooted in you. Give us the courage to respond to your love by showing others to love others. Fill us with your Spirit, so that through the love you have shown us, we can bear the great fruits of love in our daily lives. Through Christ our Lord. AMEN
