This week is British Science Week. Reception class have been listening to the story, ‘Lost and Found’ as part of our learning about cold places. They were asked the question, ‘How do penguins stay dry?’ The children came up with some fabulous ideas, really using their science knowledge and vocabulary. Isla asked if Penguin feathers were waterproof.
Mrs Wilkinson explained to the children that penguin feathers have a very special oily layer that could very possibly make their feathers waterproof. The children then used wax crayons to colour a penguin and investigate this by making their own oily layer and then adding water. The children discovered that the oily layer, does in fact make the feathers waterproof. Well done Reception Class.
