The Y5 and Y6 girls cricket competition took place at Castle Eden Cricket Club yesterday. The girls worked brilliantly as a team and showed excellent sporting values. After winning lots of their matches, the team made it to the final and came second overall. We are very proud of their achievement.

As part of our Jubilee celebrations, the children had a fantastic street party style lunch. Our kitchen staff treated us to sandwiches, sausage rolls and crisps followed by specially decorated Jubilee cakes and biscuits. We want to say a massive THANK YOU to Jan and all of the kitchen staff. We had a feast that was fit for a Queen!

Today, we celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee in school. Children came to school dressed in red, white and blue and took part in a range of activities. This was our first week of gardening club. We spent a lot of time weeding and getting our pots and beds ready for planting. Mrs Watson joined us to show us how to plant some leeks. Well done everyone for your hard work.

Year 6 are really enjoying learning about medicine through the ages. Today we looked at the role of plague doctors and why they dressed in such peculiar outfits. Kane came dressed for the part! Very practical although slightly alarming!

This morning we all went to church to crown Mary. We have been learning that May is the month of Mary. Our First Holy Communion children have been leading the rosary at parish mass each Saturday afternoon and today they led us in a decade of the Rosary before we crowned Mary. In Year 2, we have been learning all about measuring length. We enjoyed some outdoor maths this week using our metre sticks to measure various things around the school grounds.

Our Mayor, Councillor Sue Morris came to our school today for a special visit. Councillor Morris talked to all of our children about the upcoming Queen’s Jubilee and presented all of our children with a special medal in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It was lovely to see her.

A massive shout out to our Year 6 sports leaders that attended the Year 2 outdoor adventure day yesterday at Shotton Hall!
