Grinton Lodge – Day 2

We have had another lovely, sunny day today. After a delicious breakfast, we headed out onto Grinton Moor. We learnt the names for some of the birds that live on the moors and found evidence of bell pits that were used in lead mining.

We climbed up the hill and had a great view of the valley below. We ate our lunch in the sunshine and spent a while searching for the lead ore which we learnt was called galena. It was difficult to see at first but we soon became experts.

We climbed down the other side of the hill to discover Cogden Mill and look at the old lead smelting building. We climbed up inside the huge chimney and then scrambled back down the hill to Grinton Lodge.

An evening of board games rounded our second day off nicely. We are now tucked up in bed having a well earned rest.

Don’t worry, Grown Ups at home, everyone is well fed, happy and settled.
