Football News

We played a league match at home to Ryhope Juniors tonight.

The A Team played first and it was a very even match. The ball was being passed and moved from end to end. Ryhope scored first but we were able to attack on the counter. We made some great shots but didn’t manage to find the target in the first half.  At half time, the score was 2-0 to Ryhope. St. Cuthbert’s dominated in the second half with some great tackles, passing and shooting. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get a goal. An accidental handball gave us a penalty, which Evan scored. The game finished 2-1 to Ryhope. Player of the Match was Nithishan, who had a fantastic game in defence and was able to get lots of balls forward. We face Ryhope again on Thursday in the final of the Harry Page Cup. Hopefully, it will be just as exciting.

The B Team played next. Passing and running with the ball was definitely a strength tonight. The boys are starting to gel as a team and communication on the pitch was fantastic. The Ryhope B Team was very strong and fast and the score was 4-0 to them at half time. Our boys didn’t give up. We kept our concentration and launched a few attacks. We were unlucky in our attempts on goal but we did some amazing defending and were able to block many strikes from Ryhope. The final score was 6-0 to Ryhope. Player of the Match was Will for his amazing defending and clearing.
