Fire Safety Day

As part of our Fire Safety Day Reception Class had to look at the difference between hot and cold. We also had to find out how and why it is important to be careful around fire.

Mrs Groark lit lots of candles in class so we could see how fire can give us light and heat. We also had a feel of a hot water bottle and an ice pack. The hot water bottle made us feel warm and cosy but the ice pack made us feel cold and shivery. The children were given a blue and red card and we looked at pictures of objects and places and they had to decide if the place was hot or cold and hold up the appropriate card. Sometimes the answer was both hot and cold.

Mrs Prest gave us a new smoke alarm to put in our class. We tested it and it made a really loud noise. Reception Class had some homework to go home and check if they had a smoke alarm in their home and most importantly does it work.

We had a fun morning but we all know that fire and hot objects can be dangerous and hopefully Reception Class know how to be safe.
