READING IDEAS

  • Firstly – read every day!
  • Read a story your parents loved when they were a child
  • Make a story sack [Click Here]
  • Read a map – we don’t just have to read stories!
  • Draw a map – of somewhere in a story you are reading about
  • Read a recipe – and enjoy the results!

WRITING IDEAS

  • Go on a hunt for a different colour or letter of the alphabet every day. Can you collect 15 things? Can you write them down and add an adjective?
  • Write a letter or make a card and post it to someone you’re missing
  • Write a journal – this will be your very own piece of history
  • Make up your own board game and write some rules for it.
  • Take some photos throughout the day then use iMovie or another movie creator on a tablet or phone to make the movie of your day with your voice narrating over the top.
  • Create a map for writing a story

MATHS IDEAS

  • Practise telling the time – it isn’t something we get to spend a lot of lessons on in school and it is so important!
  • Play board games with dice
  • Play darts or make a target throw with different scores to add up
  • Use coins. Dig out the change in your house, Count it up and bag it. Invent a treat shop and have an allowance each day – for children and grown ups!. Play shops and use the money.
  • Use coins to help you count in 2s 5s 10s 20s and 50s
  • Find shapes all around you. Go on a walk to spot triangles or pentagons.

SCIENCE IDEAS

  • Find out how to make your own bath bomb
  • Help with the gardening.
  • Go for a walk every day and take a photo of the same plant – notice how it changes over springtime
  • Find out about the planets, the moon and space travel. How do astronauts eat? What is a space nappy??
  • Try some experiments at home [Click Here]

ART IDEAS

  • Learn how to improve your drawing skills [Click Here]
  • Make paper beads [Click Here]
  • Find out about an artist your family like – can you copy their style?
  • Look and draw. As often as you can. Use pencil, pen, chalk, crayon…. whatever you have.
  • Can you do a continuous line drawing – drawing without taking your pencil off the paper?
  • Sculpt out of cardboard. Use slots to help you 

GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY

  • Make it your mission to learn something – flags of Europe, capital cities of South America, kings and queens of England, Prime Ministers. Make it your mission to know more than your teachers.
  • On your walks, look for signs of history – older buildings, buildings with dates or blue plaques.
  • Watch some David Attenborough documentaries – Mrs Parlett’s favourite!

DT AND PRACTICAL SKILLS

  • Build with Lego, cardboard, marble run, twigs anything you can find!
  • Learn to cook with your family
  • Help to wash the car and learn how to change a bed

MUSIC & FILM

  • Listen to some film soundtracks and classical music – what do you like about them?
  • Watch a film that your mam, dad or grandparents loved when they were growing up.
  • If you have an instrument – practise!!
