It is really important that we remember all of those who fought in the wars to allow us to live the life we have now. Since it was 80 years since the end of the Second World War we joined in the celebrations by coming to school dressed in red, white and blue. We started the day with an assembly where we learnt about why we celebrate this special day. Mrs Groark shared stories about her Granda who fought in the Second World War and we all joined in with the song “We’ll meet again.” Jan and her team prepared a special VE themed treat for our lunch and all classes took part in activities linked to WW 2. Class 4 tested their brains with code breaking, Year 1 imagined what it would be like to be an evacuee and Year 6 created their own comic strips from the eyes of a child celebrating after hearing Churchill’s speech. Year 5 visited the statue of Tommy while, Eyfs created their own Spitfires. In Year 3 they wrote letters to a soldier and Year 2 enjoyed a good sing song of some VE songs.
Let us hope we never forget the sacrifices of all those who fought in the wars.
