Year 3 Stone Age Day

Year 3 took part in an exciting and educational Stone Age Day led by Kate from Historic Workshops. Pupils explored how early humans lived by examining replica hunting tools, animal bones, and other artefacts. They learned about survival skills, food gathering, and prehistoric art before creating their own cave drawings inspired by real Stone Age examples.

Year 3 Science

Year 3 learned about the rock cycle using Starburst sweets. We squashed the sweets together to show how granules and particles form sedimentary rocks in layers. Then we added pressure and heat to create metamorphic rocks. Finally, we created igneous rocks with larger crystals and air bubbles.

Year 3 Violin Lessons

Year 3 have been practising the violin for their music concert on Thursday 26th June in Horden. They have been rehearsing the music they will perform and have thoroughly enjoyed learning to play a musical instrument.

Y3 Violin Lessons

Year 3 have been enjoying their violin lessons recently as they have now moved on to using the bow. They have had a wonderful time playing new songs and learning new skills.

Christmas Fun In Y3

Year 3 have enjoyed lots of Christmas activities this week. We have had a fantastic Christmas party and Santa Dash. We also had a go at a Christmas quiz and wrote some letters to stop The Grinch from stealing Christmas. A wonderful time was had by all.

StoneAge Day

It was Stone Age day today in Year 3. We arrived to find a visitor in our classroom who showed us what life was like in Stone Age times. We learnt how to use a bow and arrow so we could catch animals to eat. Cave paintings showed us what life was like. We tried to create our own cave …

As part of our RE this half term, we have been exploring homes. The children in year 3 enjoyed creating their own homes and beginning to think more deeply about why being at home makes us happy – favourite food, toys and family were among the top 3 reasons!

Gardening Club

Tonight was the first gardening club for year 3 and 4. It was a lovely afternoon. We were in our prayer garden, weeding, gathering up leaves, moving mini-beasts we came across to somewhere safe and planted daffodil and tulip bulbs in the pots. Today, Y3 had a wonderful time storytelling using the coding program, Scratch. They had to choose  suitable backgrounds, select some sprites as characters and then add speech bubbles to tell the story. Year 3 walked over to Seaham Park Cricket Club this afternoon to take part in an afternoon of cricket fun. We split into groups and worked around the different stations which helped us develop the different skills needed in cricket. Luckily the sun was shining and we all had lots of fun.
