Year 1 had a lovely day at Beamish yesterday. We started our day by jumping on the bus to the Welfare Hall, where we took part in a toy workshop. We played with lots of toys from the past and decided which toy would be the best to put in Beamish’s new toy shop. We then stopped for some lunch, …

In our History topic, we have been learning about toys from the past. We brought our favourite toy in from home and talked about it. We have also looked at toys from the past and looked closely at the toy’s material to decide whether we think it is a modern or an old toy.

Year 1 had a lovely end to the school year. We said our goodbyes to Benjamin and wished him the very best of luck in his new school. I hope all the children and adults have a fantastic summer!

House Point Winners – George House Group! Well done to George House Group who earned the most points overall for their amazing behaviour around school this half term. As it was such a hot day on Tuesday, we decided to have some fun in the shade and cool down!  

This half term, Reception and Year 1 enjoyed a gymnastics after school club. The learnt many skills including; forward rolls, teddy bear rolls, cartwheels, jumps and balances. They all had a fantastic time and will use their new skills to develop their Key Steps routines.

Year 1 sent a letter to Handa, asking her for some fruit. She sent us bananas, oranges and apples and we made a smoothie with these. We loved tasting the smoothie and eating some of the left over fruit.

We visited the park on Thursday, as an end of year celebration. The children had lots of fun with their friends.

Today Year 1 visited the allotment to look at the different parts of plants. We talked about the things that plants need to grow. We looked at the different plants that we could see and watered them. We have talked about wild plants and garden plants and made our own wild flower bracelet. We then had a very special visitor …

This morning we all went to church to crown Mary. We have been learning that May is the month of Mary. Our First Holy Communion children have been leading the rosary at parish mass each Saturday afternoon and today they led us in a decade of the Rosary before we crowned Mary. Summer After School Clubs Loading…

During our outdoor adventure lesson in PE, we went outside to use equipment and map key to create a Funny Face using information on our map.

Today Year 1 have been learning about what countries are in the United Kingdom. They made their own map of the UK with play-dough and labelled it with the countries in it. They also labelled the capital cities in each country.

Yesterday the children discovered what’s attracted to magnetcs and why. They created their own games using the magnets and metal objects in the classroom. We had lots of fun making our own magnetic fishing rods and magnetic mazes.

Little Library Club was lots of fun yesterday. We read a story about slimy slime creatures and thought about some slimy things that we might see at home. The children thought of snails, slimy soap, slippery jelly and gooey baked beans. We then had a go at making our own slime creatures out of Play-Doh. Everyone had a great time …

The children in Year 1 worked in groups to play ‘Material Snap’. They looked around the room for something that is made from the material card they picked. The children then created their own song all about materials to the tune Fere Jacques.

This week the children have made their own Owls using paper plates and using their cutting skills. Once they had made their big owl, they were set the challenge to make a baby owl. Well done everyone!
