Year 1 could not wait to go and play in the snow today. We’ve had so much fun making snowmen and building snow towers.

Yesterday afternoon Year 1 went on a trip to Church Street to have a look at how the high street has changed from the 1950’s to now. We had a lot of fun as we got on the bus to take us down we were all very excited for the journey. Thank you to our grown ups who helped us.

Some of our Year 1 girls had the chance to take part in a Disney Shooting Stars Event. They were learning football skills while dressed in Disney accessories and singing along to Disney songs. Year 1 had a great time during the colour run, even a bit of rain didn’t stop our fun. Thank you to the Sports Partnership for putting on our sponsored colour run.

We’ve had a fun year in Year 1 and to top it off this week we had Sports Day then our Summer Splash run it may have rained but it didn’t stop us from having fun. We had Hoop Stars where we were learning new skills with hula hoop. What a fabulous way to end our time in Year 1.

Year 1 have had a fabulous day at Wharton Park. Our first activity was Let Spring Begin. The first task was to look around the park, identifying different trees using an identification key. This week in art we have been creating our very own animals out of different recyclable materials. After creating our animals we then papier-mâché ready to decorate next week.

Year 1 took part in a multiskills event this afternoon. We tried lots of different activities such as beanbag, hurdles, ball rolling and many more. Thank you to the Sports Partnership for putting on a fantastic afternoon for us all, we all had such a wonderful time.

We start our new art topic which is looking at different types of paper art. Today we have had fun in creating our own paper collage using different types of paper.

We have had a great time at our Christmas party today. Lots of dancing and playing party games.

Year 1 had a fantastic time taking part in the Santa Dash in our Christmas jumpers. Thank you to the Sports Partnership for organising a fantastic event.

In our Geography lessons Year 1 have been looking at maps. We have looked especially at maps around our school area. Today we enlisted the help of Year 4 as Mrs Groark set us a Christmas challenge. We have been developing our drawing skills by using a range of materials and techniques. We have learnt about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and are beginning to use his art work as a stimulus for our own.

On Thursday, local author Gareth Brown visited Year 1 to read his new book Louie’s Breakfast. Everyone enjoyed listening to the story and when he had finished, children asked Gareth some excellent questions. We now have a signed copy of the book in class. Thank you Gareth for visiting.

Year 1 have been part of ‘Remaking Beamish Project.’ On Monday we went to Beamish to complete the project. In English, we have been looking at Traditional Tales. Last week, we looked at the story of The Gingerbread Man. We followed a set of instruction on how the Gingerbread Man was made. Today we have been finding out about International Peace Day. We explored how we can bring peace to our school, our community and ourselves. By talking about and recognising the International Day of Peace, we are working towards our Live Simply goal. We also made peace doves to display in our class.

In Year 2, we have been drawing spirals. We used our hands, our arms and our whole bodies to move when we were creating our art. We looked at art by Molly Hausland, who draws huge circles outdoors. We really loved drawing spirals on our yard.
