We’re Taking Part in the WOW Walk to School Challenge!

We’re excited to share that our school is joining WOW – the walk to school challenge, an inspiring national initiative delivered by Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking. This project aims to help more children and families enjoy the benefits of walking or wheeling to school.

How WOW Works

The challenge is pupil-led. Each day, children self-report how they travelled to school. If they travel actively — by walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, ‘Park and Stride’, or hopping off public transport — at least once a week for a month, they’ll earn a special WOW badge.

It’s simple, fun, and encourages healthy habits!

Why Walk to School?

Walking to school helps children to:

  • Feel happier and healthier

  • Arrive refreshed and ready to learn

  • Contribute to reducing congestion and pollution around school

Can’t Walk the Whole Way?

No problem! There are easy ways to take part:

  • Park and Stride: If you drive, park at Seaham Town Hall and walk or wheel the final part of the journey.

  • Public Transport: Hop off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest (recorded as ‘other’ on the WOW Travel Tracker).

If walking from home isn’t an option, WOW can be adapted, please contact Mr Atkinson.

About the WOW Badges

From November 2025 to July 2026, pupils can earn unique badges, each designed by a child through the annual WOW Badge Design Competition. This year’s theme is Walk with Joy, celebrating everything from jumping in puddles to painting.

The badges are produced in Cornwall using recycled materials such as fridge trays, plastic plates and yoghurt pot off-cuts. Find out more at livingstreets.org.uk/recycling.

Join Thousands of Families Across the UK

Last year, around 2,100 schools and over 540,000 pupils took part in WOW. We’re proud to be joining them — and we hope your family will take part too!
