Year 4 were transported back in time during a fantastic Ancient Greek Day full of hands-on learning and fun! The children explored the fascinating differences between Athens and Sparta, taking part in lively discussions about life in each city-state. They had the exciting opportunity to try on replica armour and shields before working together to practice the famous phalanx battle formation, just like real Greek soldiers!
Later, the children stepped into the shoes of Ancient Greek citizens by experiencing the beginnings of democracy — casting their votes on key city-state matters. They also tried their hand at being scribes, using reed pens, papyrus, and real ink to write in the style of the time.
To round off the day, pupils enjoyed playing traditional board games inspired by those from Ancient Greece and Rome — a perfect way to finish a day full of immersive historical learning. Well done, Year 4!
