We arrived on a sunny but cold afternoon and after lunch went on a 5 mile stroll around the local area. We visited Grinton and walked along the River Swale to Reeth. A couple of games of cricket and football and it was tea time. Good to see everyone tucking in after their walk! We sent our postcards home which should arrive on Wednesday.
Not quite so sunny today (at least not for long). We walked, hiked, clambered and dragged ourselves at times around Grinton Moor and learned about lead mining and grouse shooting. Fortunately we managed to find shelter from the massive hailstones and we also saved Kaylem from “the bog of death” by the skin of his teeth. We also went geocaching and found 3 in one day. We were out for almost 7 hours and walked around 6 miles up some pretty big hills in some blustery conditions. Well done to all of the children for helping each other along and encouraging each other. Needless to say everyone ate all of their tea and fell asleep in record time!
A snowy day today, and very, very cold. We went stream dipping and found lots of creatures. We used the biotic index to score these creatures and find out how polluted the river was. We even ate our lunch in the snow!
Next we did some orienteering around the centre where we had to use a map to find pegs with a code on them. There were 14 to find in total and Jamie and Ethan won first place in record time!
Today we also celebrated Evie’s 10th Birthday.
After tea we went to do some work in the classroom creating ibooks about our week so far, then played games and bingo and went to bed ready for another exciting day tomorrow!
