Year 3 Educational Visit

On Tuesday, Year 3 went on an educational visit to the Synagogue and the Laing Art Gallery.

We have recently been learning about Judaism as part of our RE topic and Mrs Vandervelde was so impressed with how much we had already learned. The children had a lovely morning working with Mrs Vandervelde and her friend Kim. They were able to see first hand what a synagogue looks like inside and were able to handle or see the special objects which deepened their understanding of the Jewish faith. We even learned a song in Hebrew.

During the afternoon, we went to the Laing Art Gallery where we had a drawing workshop. Emma, the artist was fabulous and taught different techniques such as hatching, cross hatching and stippling. We went into one of the galleries and had  to draw pictures of the paintings we liked the best. We had to discuss why we liked it, how it made us feel, when we thought it had been painted and why we thought the artist painted it.

Once we had drawn our favourite paintings, we went to the classroom to draw some still life pictures using the different techniques we had learned.

Everyone had a fantastic day and were obviously very tired as the journey home was lovely and quiet.

Well done Year 3. Your behaviour and enthusiasm was excellent. You were all a credit to St. Cuthbert’s.
