Mrs Coates’ Visit

On Monday 3rd October Mrs Coates came into our class and told us about her experience from WW2 as well as stories she had from friends and family members. She brought in real artefacts from the era, letters, ration books, cards, a wedding photograph as well as shrapnel. She told us the story about how her mother worked in a sweet shop in Billingham in 1941. During an air they had to hide under the stairs. Once the sirens went off and they went out to the front of the shop, all of the glass jars had been smashed and she had to help clean the sweets from the floor. She brought in some shrapnel which was left on the shop floor.
