Reception News

This week our work was based on The Hungry Caterpillar. We enjoyed watching a video to remind us of the story. We then made our own hungry caterpillars by making a green paper chain with a red head.

We are so proud of Reception class and the way they have acted out their Nativity Play. They were so enthusiastic in their speaking, acting and especially their singing. They certainly made lots of people smile. Well done Reception Class.  

Today was party day. We had lots of fun playing games and dancing with our friends .

Year 6 enjoyed taking part in Christmas Jumper Day and having their picture taken with their buddies around our beautiful tree.  

As you may have seen recently, many refugees have been uprooted and relocated from Afghanistan to the North East of England. The SVP society at St Cuthbert’s House are collecting donations for these families. Our Mini Vinnies group in school are appealing for toiletries, games, toys, scarves, hats and gloves for adults and children.  Mrs Strong and our Mini Vinnies children …

The children looked at the artist Kandinsky and they made their own Kandinsky circles.

This week in art club we have been making our own Poppy.

We have been outside this week looking at the different colours we can see. We found lots of different coloured leaves. We collected them into different colored groups. Back in class we made some leaf pictures after reading the story , “Leaf Man ” by Louis Ehlert.

In our first art club session we have made our own firework pictures.

Our local community garden donated some pumpkins Bouncy Castle to us and we had great fun designing and making a lanterns with them. We tried to pull a face just like the lanterns we had created.

For some of our younger children, it has been such a long time since they have visited church. Our children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a visit to our church on Monday morning.         As part of letter ‘r’ day the children in Reception class have been following a recipe to make leaf soup. The worked in pairs and went onto the field to find their ingredients. Some of them were experimenting to make the perfect porridge recipe for the bear. They had lots of fun.

We enjoyed spending some time with our buddies on mental health awareness day. Seeing our buddies makes us happy. We took part in an outdoor scavenger hunt.

This week we have been so busy. We have been looking at different sounds each day. On the letter k day we made kites and then tested them outside. Reception Class were very excited this week. It was letter, “i” day and we were looking for insects. We decided to go over to the allotment for the first time to see what we could find. Instead of finding lots of insects the children were amazed to find lots of fruit, flowers and vegetables especially beans which they enjoyed collecting …

This week Reception Class have been learning their letter sounds. The first sound we looked at was the, “M” sound. We used our scissor skills to make a mouse and then we were set a challenge to find out materials that our magnets would be attracted to.    

Reception Class were so excited to meet their buddies today. Our Year 6 buddies will help our Reception Class to settle into their new school.
