Reception News

Reception Class enjoyed their first after school story club. The story we were looking at this week was Elmer. We watched an Elmer story and were then set the task of making our own Elmer with a new coat. Everyone worked so well designing a new coat for Elmer.Lots of interesting Elmers went home.

On Thursday, KS1 children enjoyed a jam packed afternoon of dancing with Sophie from the Easington School Sports Partnership. The children were given opportunities to take part in a wide range of dance styles along with using a variety of dance props. Glow sticks and disco lights added to the party atmosphere.

Some pumpkins were delivered to our class. We had lots of fun working in teams, designing a face for our pumpkin and then carving out the flesh and seeds. We tried to make the same face as our  pumpkin.

Reception had such a lovely afternoon when Sophie a dance teacher came to work with us. We used glow sticks, ribbons and pom poms to dance with. We also used  the parachute to help us to listen and follow instructions. Thank you Sophie we had a super dancing time.

As a school on Tuesday 18th,  we took part in the “million children pray the rosary” campaign for peace and unity in the world. Deacon Peter visited Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and explained what the rosary was and why we pray it. Then together they recited the Hail Mary, Our Father and Glory Be together. At 11am Year …

In our Judaism topic this week we were learning about the Jewish Festival of Sukkot. During Sukkot, Jewish people remember when God freed them from slavery in Egypt. Our Year 6 buddies have really helped our Reception Class to settle into their new school. They have looked after us at playtimes and produced a lovely assembly for our grown ups to show them some of the fun things we have to look forward to during our time at St Cuthberts. Thank you buddies you have been great!

We are so proud of our new Reception Class and how they have settled into their new school so well. Over their first few weeks they have been very busy. They have really enjoyed their indoor and outdoor classrooms and have made so many new friends.

House Point Winners – George House Group! Well done to George House Group who earned the most points overall for their amazing behaviour around school this half term. As it was such a hot day on Tuesday, we decided to have some fun in the shade and cool down!  

We have had a busy time in Reception class this week. In Maths we had to design a fruit kebab making sure it followed a repeated pattern. This morning we all went to church to crown Mary. We have been learning that May is the month of Mary. Our First Holy Communion children have been leading the rosary at parish mass each Saturday afternoon and today they led us in a decade of the Rosary before we crowned Mary. Our year 6 children had a special visit from their buddies last week during their SATs and they gave them a good luck card and Mrs Groark gave a lovely speech about how she has watched Y6 grow over the years.

In Science, Reception class enjoyed making rockets. They were investigating forces as part of their Science topic. They had great fun trying to see who’s rocket would travel the furthest. We tested them inside and outside to see how that made the rockets move.

A big thank you to all of our families who have been so generous in their donations this week for our Ukraine appeal – as you can see we collected a lot in a very short space of time. It was Pancake Day today and we decided to make our own pancakes in school. We listened to a song to help us remember the ingredients we needed and what we had to do. We each helped to add the ingredients and mix them together. The best part was when we were given some pancakes to eat.  

Reception Class have enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year in class this week. They have made dragon masks and dancing dragons. In Maths they enjoyed playing games with the special red envelopes and weighing the different animals who took part in the race to see which one was the heaviest.  At the end of the week we completed our celebrations by …

This week the children have made their own Owls using paper plates and using their cutting skills. Once they had made their big owl, they were set the challenge to make a baby owl. Well done everyone!
